Why We Do Not Recommend Using Press On Nails Glue?

Why We Do Not Recommend Using Press On Nails Glue?

Now a days more and more press-on nail enthusiasts use glue to apply their nails, and suppliers often offer free glue with their products.

However, at Lindraw, we strongly advise against using glue for this purpose.

The glue commonly provided is known as 502 glue, which belongs to a family of adhesives called cyanoacrylates. Cyanoacrylates are strong, fast-acting adhesives used in various industrial, medical, and household applications. They are derived from ethyl cyanoacrylate and related esters. The cyanoacrylate group in the monomer rapidly polymerizes in the presence of water, forming long, strong chains.

Specific types of cyanoacrylates include:

  • Methyl 2-cyanoacrylate (MCA)
  • Ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate (ECA): Commonly sold under trade names such as “Super Glue” and “Krazy Glue.”
  • n-Butyl cyanoacrylate (n-BCA)
  • Octyl cyanoacrylate
  • 2-Octyl cyanoacrylate: Used in medical, veterinary, and first aid applications.

Cyanoacrylate adhesives are sometimes generically known as instant glues, power glues, or super glues. The abbreviation “CA” is commonly used for industrial-grade cyanoacrylate.

While cyanoacrylate adhesives are known for their strong bonding properties, they are not ideal for use on nails due to several reasons:

  1. Potential Damage to Natural Nails: The strong bond created by cyanoacrylate adhesives can damage the natural nail when removing the press-on nails, leading to weakening or tearing of the nail bed. Learn more about What happens if you use super glue for fake nails?

2. Skin Sensitivity: Cyanoacrylates can cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some individuals, making them unsuitable for prolonged contact with the skin around the nails.

3. Difficulty in Removal: Removing nails applied with cyanoacrylate glue can be challenging and often requires harsh chemicals or excessive force, which can harm your natural nails and skin.

4. Irreversible Damage to Press-On Nails: 502 glue can cause irreversible damage to your press-on nails, reducing their lifespan and compromising their appearance.

Instead of using glue, we recommend using adhesive tabs or specialized nail adhesives designed specifically for press on nails. These alternatives provide a secure hold without the risks associated with cyanoacrylate adhesives. In contrast to glue, press on nails applied with sticker tabs  are much easier to remove and are gentler on your nails. For a safer and more comfortable application, we suggest opting for sticker tabs. For tips on how to remove press-on nails safely, discover our recommended methods.
